Licences are valid for 5 years and the Single Engine Piston rating included in the licence remains valid for 24 months. To maintain currency it is necessary to fly 12 hours flight time in the preceding 12 months before expiry.
The UK National Private Pilot Licence (NPPL)
The NPPL has been introduced to encourage the popularity of recreational flying in the UK. The reduced number of hours required for licence issue make obtaining the licence significantly cheaper and less stringent medical standards open up flying to more people. Licence issue requires 32 hours minimum flight training time, passes in the same exams as for the PPL and successful completion of separate navigation and general handling flight tests. To maintain currency of your NPPL it is necessary to fly at least 12 hours over 24 months and it is possible to upgrade your NPPL licence to the full JAR PPL.
Night Rating
When added to your PPL licence it allows flight beyond dusk. The rating requires 5 hours flying time including dual and solo cross country and 5 solo take offs and landings.
Instrument Meteorological Conditions Rating (IMC)
Don't get caught out by deteriorating weather, be able to fly in the clouds! Increase your skills and reduce your weather limitations by adding the IMC rating to your PPL licence. The rating requires 15 hours flying training, a ground exam and final flight test.
Ground School
Ground school is offered on a one instructor to one student basis or in small groups to assist with study for the theoretical knowledge ground exams.
Introductory Trial Flying Lesson
An introduction to flight training that can be counted towards your total training time should you decide to continue towards a licence. An ideal way to see whether flying is for you; the trial lesson includes an introductory briefing, a short flight with an instructor, a debrief and a flight certificate. You can book in advance for a 20, 40 or 60 minute lesson, most of which will be airborne time. The perfect present for the prospective aviator. Gift vouchers are available. Other lesson timings and options like a land away at another airfield are available by arrangement.
